Water Purifiers / Distillers / Shower Filters

  • Do users report that they can tell a difference between using the shower filter and not. In other words, does the water feel "soft"?
  • On the tribest classic distiller is the carbon filter made of coconut shell carbon (the same as the waterwise 9000)?
  • What is the difference between the WaterWise 4000 and the WaterWise 9000? They look like they do the same thing?
  • Will the water distillers distill other water than tap water?
  • Does the KDF replaceable shower filter (or hand held unit) remove rust?
  • Can the shower head that comes with the shower filter be replaced with my own shower head?

Do users report that they can tell a difference between using the shower filter and not. In other words, does the water feel "soft"?
I can't say if the water is softer.. that would be a water softener.. I can tell you I personally, and others have reported softer hair, and skin because of the lack of the chlorine in the water after installing a shower filter.

On the tribest classic distiller is the carbon filter made of coconut shell carbon (the same as the waterwise 9000)?
It has activated Carbon - Bituminous Coal- this carbon is more "impure" than coconut shell carbon. According to the manufacturer since its more impure it does a better job in filtering a wider variety of impurities.

What is the difference between the WaterWise 4000 and the WaterWise 9000? They look like they do the same thing?
Basically the 4000 distiller is faster than the 9000. The 4000 is the "age old" design, while the 9000 is sleek, and "new" design. The 9000 has a stainless steel boiler, with plastic sides, whereas the 4000 has a stainless steel boiler, and sides. The 9000 water container is self contained in the unit, and the 4000 it is separate. The 4000 has a smaller post carbon filter, that probably needs to be replaced sooner than the 9000's. (Although the filters are much cheaper)

The other differences between their two water distillers other than the obvious change in styling has to to with the 9000's longer lasting heavier duty nature. Though it actually treats water at a slightly slower rate it is designed to produce 3 gallons of distilled water a day for roughly seven years whereas the 4000 is good for approx. 2 gallons a day for two to three years. Though either machine is generally easily repaired at the end of it's life cycle and unlike other filtration systems the distillation process does not become less efficient as the parts age.

Will the water distillers distill other water than tap water?
Waterwise states that they prefer to only advertise "tap water" usage in their distillers because someone would eventually try to put "sewage" into it. However, Waterwise states that it would work with river water, swimming pool water, and even desalinate. However, the salt water is so "caustic" that it would probably shorten the life of the unit. We only reccomend the units to be used with tap water.

Does the KDF replaceable shower filter (or hand held unit) remove rust?
According to the manufacturer, it does not remove rust. According to the manufacturer it removes: Chlorine, Sediment, Iron Oxide and Hydrogen Sulfide.

Can the shower head that comes with the shower filter be replaced with my own shower head?
Most of the time. If your shower head unscrews and leaves a nipple, the shower filter will replace your current head. We also reccomend you use a low flow shower head (2.5 GPM), which is water conserving, since this will SLOW the water as it goes through the filter, to ensure contact time with the filter media.
